FEED AND FODDER DEVELOPMENT :

PURCHASE OF FEED INGREDIENTS:

The Department of AH, LF &VS, Government of Sikkim is maintaining different Livestock Farms in the four districts of the state for the purpose of genetic up-gradation of the indigenous animals in the state for better economic returns to the farmers. The farms also serve as demonstration units on scientific management of livestock to the farmers at large. Feed for livestock is an integral component for maintaining healthy and productive livestock. The feed for the department livestock farms is arranged by the Feed and Fodder section of the Department of AH, LF&VS every year as a routine practice.

The state of Sikkim has been declared as a fully organic agriculture state and the Sikkim Agriculture, Horticulture and Livestock Feed Regulatory Act, 2014 has been enacted and enforced. The Act prohibits the use of inorganic livestock feeds. Accordingly only organically produced feed should be fed to livestock within the state. In light of the above the Feed and Fodder Section of the Department of AH, LF & VS after obtaining approval of the Government has transferred funds to the District for the purpose of purchasing locally available feed ingredients for computation of balanced ration for feeding the livestock maintained in the farms.
